Understanding Eczema and Food Sensitivities

As a clinical nutritionist, I’ve worked with many families navigating childhood eczema and food-related symptoms. But this project is deeply personal. My daughter experienced persistent eczema as a toddler. Doctors prescribed creams and wet wrapping, yet the scratching continued (often until she bled). Like many parents, I felt frustrated, tired, and determined to find the cause. It broke my heart to watch my baby suffer.

The Turning Point: Food Intolerance Testing

Then, we ran a food intolerance test. That moment marked a turning point. Through testing and gut health support, we discovered her trigger foods and started to see real change. Her skin settled, and the itching stopped. Finally, we could get some rest.

Today, she’s thriving. She understands which foods don’t work for her, knows how to read food labels, and confidently manages her health at school and social events. She still enjoys birthday parties and fun with friends, just with a bit of planning and awareness.

Empowering Children Through Storytelling

This experience inspired our latest project: a children’s book designed to help families talk about food reactions in a way that feels empowering, not overwhelming.

Diary of an Itchy Kid – Kiko’s Story is told from a child’s perspective. It aims to help young readers feel strong and confident in making the right choices for them. That it's ok to listen to their bodies and the benefits of personalising your diet to suit your unique needs (and yes it's ok if your needs are a little different). This book is ideal for kids with eczema, tummy troubles, or food sensitivities. It also supports parents trying to explain food-related symptoms in a gentle, relatable way.

Invitation for Early Readers

The book is nearly ready to launch. We’re inviting a small group of parents to preview it and share feedback before it’s released. If you’d like early access to Diary of an Itchy Kid, or if you’re looking for support with your own child’s eczema or food reactions, we’re here to help.

You can book a consultation with us or learn more about food intolerance testing here. If you’d like to be part of the early reader group for the book, simply get in touch. We can’t wait to share this story with more families who need it.

Closing note

ree

Navigating childhood eczema can be challenging. However, with the right tools and support, families can find relief and understanding. Our journey has shown us the importance of awareness and education. We hope to empower other families through our book and resources.

Until next time, stay deliciously healthy.
